If there is a way to lose weight with something as yummy as coconut oil, I will try it!

For a long time coconut oil was given a bad name; as an oil to avoid because of it being a saturated fat, but new research proves otherwise. Coconut oil is 90% saturated with a difference, the difference is the lauric acid content.

So, How does Coconut Oil Help with Weight Loss?

  • The first thing I found when doing some research on "coconut oil for weight loss" was that coconut oil is not like any other oil. Coconut oil is special ;-) It has the ability to supercharge your metabolism!
  • Coconut oil is a friendly fat, due to the fact that it contains essential medium chain fatty acids. Most other oils contain long-chain fatty acids, which are metabolized differently. The medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil are sent immediately to the liver where they are used for energy or turned into ketone bodies. This means higher energy levels for you and me!
  • There are studies that have shown the decrease in abdominal fat (belly fat), when adding coconut oil to the diet!

  • There are fewer cases of heart disease and obesity in the Philippines, India and the Pacific islands. It is no coincidence that these people enjoy coconut on a daily basis.
  • Coconut oil has been used as a natural mood enhancer. This also has a positive effect on weight loss efforts because you will feel more motivated.
  • Coconut oil will help balance hormones. Hormones are properly synthesized when enough essential fatty acids are available. This means that your thyroid function, digestion, mood, metabolism and sex drive depend on fatty acids!
  • As previously mentioned, coconut oil has the power to improve digestion. More importantly, daily consumption of coconut oil actually helps your digestive tract to absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) How does this help you lose weight? Your body will feel better when it gets all the nutrients and vitamins it needs. 
  • You will have more energy to exercise. It does this by stabilizing your blood sugar levels and helping your body produce more insulin.
  • Coconut oil has been used by many to combat yeast infection. Yeast infection symptoms include food cravings, weight gain, stress and fatigue.

How to Lose Weight with Coconut Oil

How much coconut oil for weight loss?

You can mix 1 tbsp of coconut oil with hot water or a herbal tea of your choice. I like to mix mine with hot water and lemon juice. Lemon juice also has many health benefits, two of these include boosting your immune system and weight loss. Drink this mixture before each meal.

You can use coconut oil for everything (I do) I use it to bake, to fry, in my smoothies, on my skin ;-) You really don't need another oil.

Cook your food with coconut oil instead of other oils. A great benefit of cooking with coconut oil, is that it doesn't denature (lose vitamins such as vitamin E) and create unhealthy toxins when heated. It is resistant to heat damage. Here is a study on this...

NB – Not all coconut oils are equal in quality! Make sure that you get a good quality, organic, virgin cold pressed coconut oil. What about coconut oil pills for weight loss? The coconut oil can be taken in the form of supplements. A good quality coconut oil will have a stronger coconutty flavor. If you are not into the coconut flavor, you can try a more refined coconut oil. Just ensure that its not full of chemicals.
