What is Coconut Butter?

Coconut butter is also commonly referred to as coconut manna and coconut cream concentrate.

Coconut manna is kinda the same as any other nut butter, except it has a coarser consistency and coconut is actually not a nut, but a fruit. I only recently discovered coconut cream concentrate and came across a recipe that my kids love. (recipe below)

Coconut manna is essentially blended coconut meat, it's creamy and should not be confused with coconut oil.

Make your own Coconut Butter.

Homemade Coconut Butter

Dried, raw coconut meat is pureed to produce a coconut spread. Add 2 cups of raw, dry, desiccated coconut or dried coconut shreds to your mixer and mix until it's a smooth, buttery consistency. (usually takes between 10 - 20 minutes)

Consistencies differ, depending on the length of time you blend it and the qualities of the coconut you use.

Here is Why I Love Coconut Manna…

Coconut manna is the best food for your child. Kids generally love this stuff! It is recommended to start introducing coconut products into a baby's diet as soon as your baby starts eating solids. Coconut oil contains Lauric acid, which is the same fat found in breast milk. The lauric acid protects against infections both viral and fungal, this will boost your baby’s immune system. Here is an excellent recipe for babies…

There are so many different coconut butter uses, including:

  • Eat it just as is.
  • On cold fruit or as a hot vegetable topping.
  • It can be used in cakes and brownies.
  • It can be used in bread, cookies, and muffins
  • It can be used in smoothies, candy and fudge.

Coconut manna can be used on its own or in many recipes, the possibilities of coconut manna uses are endless. One favorite of ours is to use it instead of regular butter on toast, which is a much healthier alternative.

Chocolate Coconut Candy

coconut butter recipe, what is coconut butter , coconut butter vs coconut oil, coconut butter usesCoconut Butter Candy

  • 80g coconut cream concentrate
  • 80g Coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 tbsp cocoa nibs
  • 1 tbsp organic cocoa powder
  • Nuts are optional, for placing on top.

Make sure your coconut oil is soft enough to mix well with the other ingredients. Mix everything together and place the mix into your molds. If you are adding nuts, you can pop them on top now. Leave to harden in the refrigerator. Place them in a glass container. (Keep them in the fridge because they do melt in warmer temperatures)

These coconut candies are quick and easy to make. I make some with nuts on the top for myself ;-) These are really good as a small, healthy snack. Coconut is known for its powerful hunger-curbing action. Read more about how coconut can help you lose weight.
