We are always in search of healthier meal alternatives, but we do not often give much thought to our fluid intake. Our bodies are comprised of 60% water. This water does not only aid our bodies with all its living cells and organs in matters of repair and regeneration but also acts as a cushion for our organs to protect them from damage.

I admit, not everyone enjoys the light coconutty flavor of coconut water, saying it is quite bland and otherwise tasteless – so why not change the way you prepare and drink the coconut water?

Here I am going to show you how to prepare a refreshingly different drink altogether. Even my eight-year-old-daughter, who is a very picky eater, has grown to appreciate the goodness and great taste of this beautiful coconut water smoothie. She has learned to prepare them herself, adding a variety of fruits and veggies, which she would otherwise have refused altogether. At first, I admit to cheating her into eating her fruits and vegetables by hiding them in her smoothies, but with time, she has learned to embrace them. Now she enjoys these healthy drinks on a day to day basis.

This Coconut water smoothie is a great summer drink for adults and children. It’s both healthy and nutritious and can accommodate a variety of occasions; a day at the beach, a family barbeque or a friendly gathering.

Invite a few friends over and see how they react to this tasty drink. This easy coconut water smoothie can be used as a cocktail; add some chilled sparkling white wine or champagne (instead of the sparkling water) and serve in champagne glasses.

Coconut Water Smoothie Recipe

  • 2 Cans of coconut water - 11.8 Ounce (350ml) each
  • 1 small cucumber
  • 3 handfuls of grapes
  • 1 Green apple
  • 6 medium size pitted dates
  • 1 cup of sparkling water (unflavoured) or sprite


  • The night before, pour a can of coconut water into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight.
  • Peel the apple and cucumber. (Do not discard the peels as they are perfect for decorating your finished drink).
  • Blend 1 cup of chopped fresh cucumber, with a cup of grapes on high speed.
  • Add the green apple pieces and continue blending.
  • Add the other tin of coconut water.
  • Add the pitted dates.
  • Add 1 small cup of sparkling water or sprite
  • Place 6-8 coconut ice cubes in the blender, and blend until smooth.
  • Thin with more coconut water if needed.
  • Divide among 4 large glasses.

Recipe Alternatives

  • If you prefer a thicker, creamier smoothie, you could replace the coconut water with coconut milk. Keep in mind that coconut milk smoothies contain extra calories, due to the additional fat content.
  • Add or remove a variety of fresh fruits and pulps to suit any occasion.

  • Pineapple coconut smoothie: Replace the grapes with 1 medium-size pineapple.
  • Strawberry coconut smoothie: Replace the grapes with 15 medium size, ripe strawberries.
